No doubt everybody's breathing a sigh of relief over the news that Nevada's reduced its emission of toxic crap by 10%! Those of us who can still breathe, anyways. Which probably is fewer than you'd think given that Nevada still leads the nation in mercury emissions, thanks to the foreign conglomerates here stealing our precious metals without much [...] The EPA is going through with changes to how companies will report the toxins they release. That old nemesis of Jim Gibbons and his Multinational Mining Overlords, the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) will be undergoing two new restrictions supposedly to reduce the "burdens" companies face in reporting how badly they are poisoning Americans. [...] It’s good to see that the Democratic Gube wannabes DinaTitus and Jim GibSON are attacking Gibbons’ role in undermining the science of mercury emission reporting. Congressman and Governor wannabe Jim Gibbons, in case you missed his cameo in the recent New York Times bestseller by Chris Mooney, co-wrote a report under-reporting the amount of mercury spewed [...] The Toxics Release Inventory, a database of information about toxic emissions maintained by the Environmental Protection Agency, made the Review Journal today. The LVRJ cites a report from the U.S. Public Research Group (PIRG) about proposed changes in how the database gets its data. The EPA currently requires companies to report annually about toxic emissions. The [...] Bush’s EPA is trying to finish the job begun at least two years ago by the virulently anti-environmentalist Congressman Jim Gibbons of Nevada. The Toxics Release Inventory, which monitors the release of toxic nastiness into the environment, has long been a thorn in the side of Jim Gibbons and the Mining Fat Cats who fund his campaigns. [...] Last year I noted how Jim Gibbons was trying to shut down the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) because it repeatedly points out that the multinational mining companies in Nevada are among the most irreponsible polluters on the planet. The EPA revised the way toxicity is measured and now, low and behold, the magic of Government-manipulated science gives [...] Congressman Jim Gibbons doesn’t want Nevadans to know about toxicity levels at local mines.
