So-called Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons appointed Vucanovich-spawn to the State Ethics Commission Tuesday, prompting some folks to ponder, what the heck is Vucanovich-spawn anyway?
Actually it prompted folks to wonder how an appointee who was too closely tied to Republican politics to get the job last year, is suddenly acceptable this year.
Oh wait. Now I remember. Everything changed since 1-1-07, when Gibbers got the jitters.
Gibbons has appointed Patty Cafferata to head the State Ethics Commission, who, we learn
had been one of the finalists when [present EC boss Patrick] Hearn was named director
last year. At the time, some commissioners had expressed concern about
hiring a director who had been so closely associated with the
Republican Party and partisan politics. (RGJ)
Cafferata is the daughter of longtime Gibbons’ Country Congresscritter and arch-Republicanista Barbara Vucanovich. Cafferata ran for Vucanovich’s seat when she left it in 1996 along with a tawdry crowd of incompetent wannabes:
Republicans seeking Vucanovich’s job include her daughter,
Lander County District Attorney Patty Cafferata; state Treasurer
Bob Seale, and former state Assemblyman Jim Gibbons. (Sun)
Holy crap. What a choice.
And catch the issue she ran on:
Asked why she described herself as the most conservative
candidate, Cafferata said, "The tax issue." During her stint in
the Assembly representing Reno, she said she did not vote for any
taxes.
In contrast, she said Gibbons, in his first two terms, voted for a
tax increase "every time it came up." And she said Seale bills
himself as a moderate.
She said the federal spending and taxing is "killing off the
American dream. Young couples find it more and more difficult to
start a business, thanks to the morass of rules and regulations
and, yes, taxes … ever-increasing taxes.
"We need an overhaul of the tax laws (and) seek to make the
system family friendly."
Oh, wait, just a little further:
Cafferata, Nevada’s National Republican Committeewoman, served
one term in the Assembly, was state treasurer from 1982 to 1986
and was the Republican nominee for governor in 1986, losing to
Democrat Richard Bryan.
Wow. A nice non-partisan choice, ain’t she? But, do you think Gibbons felt kinda bad for stealing all her issues later on, like:
She said that although the federal government has spent billions
over the past decade on its war on drugs,
the program isn’t working.
"We must declare Nevada a drug-free zone and crack down on those
who sell drugs to our children," she said in her prepared
speech. "The federal government must return drug enforcement to
the states instead of wasting money in Washington."(Sun)
And after a decade of Gibbons in congress, it’s still not working! Good thing for Gibbers, though, cuz then he can run on it again. And again. And again…
Guess who was running on the Democratic side? A former hooker among others.
