Can you? Can you think of anything more embarrassing than having your name printed in the local newspaper for giving money to the Jim Gibbons for Trashheap of History Campaign? (RJ) Who would dare the universal derision surely to accompany such a ludicrous expenditure of funds? Why surely any major corporate figure to do so would cause [...] Ah! What would a gubernatorial race in Nevada be without allegations of wrong-doing and pay-to-play? Yup, it’s time to dust off that Rove-frogmarch pic again, cuz two of the Republican gube-wannabes got caught playing around with their campaign contributions! First off, there’s that guy who used to be mayor of someplace nobody in their right mind would ever [...] The jaded, Gibbons-hating liberal media has stolen Jim Gibbons’ balloons! After mercilessly hounding his chief of staff about her possible violation of the Hatch Act, merely for organizing a fund-raiser for her boss, Robin Reedy has canceled the party. (RGJ) It boggles the mind how this simple act of generosity by Ms. Reedy could possibly be considered illegal. Just [...] What’s scarier than a stock market crash or a looming recession? The possible re-election of the nation’s most overstuffed stuffed shirt, that’s what. Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons is already over a hundred grand into his fund-raising for the 2010 Gube run, according to his recently filed campaign report. Ralston notes that big Pharmaceutical companies are being real [...] Ralston makes the case for turning the State Senate blue today as he trots out his semi-annual harangue about Nevada’s screwed up campaign reporting. We learn that the Governor has a "secret money machine" sucking up cash from pharmaceutical companies and whoever is dumping funds into the Gube’s legal defense slush fund. Last week [Gibbons] raised money [...] The Sun tells us that the Federal Elections Commission has dropped a complaint against Gibbons for some alleged campaign finance shenanigans but–get this–is still requiring that his PAC pay $2,000 back. Not guilty, but pay it back? The TItus campaign caught Gibbons with his PAC showing when he accepted $11,000 in campaign contributions over legal limits back in [...] Jon Ralston tells us today, after catching Harry Reid with his pants around his ankles, that Reid accepted campaign contributions from a rabidly pro-Yucca Mountain Political Action Committee for the Nuke industry called "General Atomics." Yes, that should be embarrassing to the Senate Majority Leader, and yes, that makes his attacks on Gibbons in recent weeks for [...] The putative leader of the the State of Nevada was crowing about all those profits Big Mining was ripping out of Nevada recently (KRNV,MineWeb). Casinos, too, are making a bundle. So, wonders Ralston, Maybe those who brought us Governor Read My Lips and the Gang of 63 should bear the burden. Consider two recent news items: News [...] Off to bed with no supper for the RJ today, which reported that Golf-developer Bill Walters only spent $10,000 on the Gibbons race. Well, look again at page 2 of the Gube’s latest financials and notice that $40,000 comes from the same address as that given by Walters. And let’s look at the corporate records of [...] Nevada’s perverse campaign finance reporting laws stumble along in their usual bemused state as James A. Gibbons hands in the last report of the 2006 campaign. AP has the preliminary report: Gibbons clocks in with $5.7 million raised and spent for the primary and general. $1.1 million were spent in the last days of the campaign [...] |
