Nevada Gold Mines Just Keep on Giving

The RGJ and AP report on how Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine is spewing mercury like a Governor hurling after drinking too much with his campaign manager and groping a cocktail waitress. Apparently mercury dust is leaking from the ore-drying system before it gets to filters designed to catch the stuff.

The Nevada Division of Environment Protection ordered the plant to come up with a plan to fix the problem or face heavy fines. Hmm. Raise your hand if you think the mine will ever have to pay a cent in a state run by one of the foremost mercury-emissions deniers. Now, it’s chump-change to Siggy, but the Queenstake Employees PAC dropped at least $1,500 on the Governor in his recent election, too. (p. 18 of CC&E #3) And, hey, Mr. Secretary of State Ross Miller, they don’t seem to have complete financials online yet for that PAC.

Also, Gibbons continues his purge of Guinnites from the State government. Nevada Agricultural Director Don Henderson had his last day today. (AP)

  • Off the subject but following your post re: Not Much Money.. of 2/22, coincidentally or not so coincidentally Alice Madden who signed the FEC PAC document is also the name of a CO State Representative (D) from Denver where the newly created and highly mysterious CommonCentsConsulting also resides. As you found out, Common Cents Consulting is just a name parked under GoDaddy.
It has to be taken for granted that getting Fux to do the debate generated some significant fees to the broker and/or the NDSP.
    1. So what were the fees paid to the NDSP?
    2. What’s the connection between the NDSP, Alice Madden, and Common Cents Consulting?
    3. Why are we using a newly formed (2/13/07) Denver firm for the broker instead of one from Nevada?
Something really smells here most likely in the form of kickbacks to insiders of the NDSP for getting the debate to Fux instead of some other, more trustworthy media organization.
Is the NDSP above and beyond asking what financial considerations were given to swing the smelly deal to Fux?

  • What?!

Gibbons mercury report can be read at “heartland.org/books/EnergyGuide/EnergyGuide.pdf”, at page 53.
Queenstake Jerritt Canyon Employees Committee for Political Action is not required to file the 3rd period (period after October 26, 2006), if they did not make a contribution to a candidate during that period. Also, no donations to a PAC are required to be reported if there were no contributions to a candidate during the reporting period.
The above is one example of the numerous loop holes in Nevada’s campaign reporting laws. This is how Mayor Goodman can have his much publicised PAC take in unlimited contributions, and if he doesn’t ever make a contribution to a candidate from this PAC, everything that would otherwise have to be disclosed is kept secret.
When Goodman stops being an elected official he can keep all the money in the PAC. It appears to be a very legal backdoor manner in which to accept kickbacks, bribes etc. I am not insinuating that he is; but this loophole is a way to payoff politicians for years and let them cash out once they are out of office.

  • cf: Darryl of CommonCentsConsulting is Darryl Tattrie, Comptroller of AZ Demo Party is the one whose name the Western Majority Party is filed under. He’s been around in KY, CO, and AZ of late.
