Bill Young, Sheriff of Las Vegas, was bemoaning the fact that free speech isn’t free. (Sherm’s pape). It turns out that the humongous protest marches on Monday cost the police and sheriff departments so much money they haven’t even been able to count it all up yet.
"We don’t need anymore marches," the Sheriff said, squinting Clint Eastwood -like into the hot desert sun.
Okay, he didn’t really squint, but you gotta wonder, should the chief law enforcement officer of the land be saying such a thing? Out of context, at least, it sounds like a J. Edgar Hoover-esque threat to those wanting to exercise their human natural right to assemble.
But anyway, however much the costs to the city, I say, send the bill to the Congresspeople who voted for HR 4437, like Jim Gibbons and Jon Porter, Bill. If the House hadn’t passed such a reactionary bill in the first place, there wouldn’t have been any protests.
And when I say send them the bill, Biil,I mean them personal-like. No dipping into tax-payer funds. Take the money out of the Congressfolk’s own pockets, or the very deep pockets of their campaigns.
That’ll make ‘em think twice about passing those especially nutty bills, Bill.
